Start with the process, not the catalog title
Level instruments are often misquoted when the RFQ starts from a product name alone. A radar level meter, ultrasonic level meter or hydrostatic probe can all measure level, but each reacts differently to foam, vapor, dust, pressure, temperature, density, dielectric constant and installation geometry.
Continuous measurement or point alarm
Continuous instruments output a level value, usually 4-20 mA, HART or RS-485. Point level switches provide an alarm or control point, such as high-high overflow, low-low pump protection or dry-run prevention. A vessel may need both a transmitter and independent switches.
Liquid, slurry, powder and interface are different problems
Clean water in an open tank is a different selection problem from a pressurized chemical vessel, a dusty cement silo, a deep well, a foaming wastewater pit or a two-liquid interface. Share the real medium and application limits so the correct technology can be filtered first.
When to ask for engineering review
Ask for review when the application includes pressure, high temperature, corrosive liquid, adhesive material, heavy dust, foam, agitators, narrow nozzles, long ranges, hazardous areas, outdoor wells or strict alarm logic. These details can change both the product family and the configuration.
