How to specify radar level meters.

Radar level meters are selected when the buyer needs non-contact continuous level measurement in tanks, vessels, pits, channels or silos. They are usually preferred over ultrasonic instruments when vapor, foam, dust, temperature variation or long measuring distance makes acoustic echo unstable.

For liquids, start with tank height, nozzle size, dielectric condition, foam, vapor, pressure and temperature. For solids, add silo diameter, filling point, dust intensity, material name, bulk density and the expected surface angle. These details decide whether a compact radar, long-range silo radar, air-purge radar or guided wave radar is safer.

80 GHz radar is useful for narrow beam angles and small nozzles. 60 GHz water radar is often used in hydrology and outdoor level telemetry. Guided wave radar is a contact technology and should be treated separately: probe style, dielectric, buildup and mechanical load matter as much as electronics.

Do not select only from the advertised range. Antenna type, blind zone, false echo suppression, certificate, process seal and installation geometry decide whether the model will work in the real tank.

For RFQ, send tank or silo height, nozzle drawing, medium, temperature, pressure, output signal, power, certificate requirement and any site photos. WELK then confirms the product family and model before quotation.

Radar Level Meters questions.

Usually yes. Radar is less affected by dust than ultrasonic, but antenna buildup, aiming and the filling stream still need review.

80 GHz is common for narrow-beam tank and silo work. 60 GHz is often used for compact outdoor water level sensors. The final choice depends on range, mounting and medium.

Use guided wave radar when the signal needs a probe path, for example in narrow vessels, bypass chambers, low dielectric liquids or interface applications.
