Radar vs Ultrasonic Level Meter: How to Choose

A first-pass guide for choosing radar or ultrasonic level measurement from medium, vapor, foam, dust and tank geometry.

When radar is usually the safer choice

Radar is normally preferred when vapor, foam, dust, pressure, temperature variation or a long measuring range makes ultrasonic echo reliability uncertain. 80 GHz radar also helps when a narrow beam is needed to avoid nozzles, ladders or internal structures.

When ultrasonic can still be a good fit

Ultrasonic level meters remain economical for open tanks, sumps, clean water, wastewater and many chemical storage applications when the surface is relatively stable and the blind zone can be respected.

Send medium, range, tank height, nozzle or bracket details, vapor or foam condition, temperature, pressure, output signal and quantity. With this information WELK can recommend radar, ultrasonic or another level technology instead of quoting from a title alone.
